A Video Overview: The Municipal Smart Lighting and Evolving Technology Guidebook was specifically commissioned to address issues of streetlight ownership, the streamlining of municipal services, and economic benefits for New York State. The authors, expand the subject to incorporate the public space/social relationship debate. They assert that to leverage smartness community engagement processes, a shades of night analysis and ecological considerations are foundational for placemaking with light.

Santa Monica, Third Street Promenade 

May 2019

Downtown Santa Monica (DTSM) commissioned Leni Schwendinger, nighttime designer and urban lighting design consultant, to conduct a NightSeeing program for May 6th and 7th 2019. The purpose was to provide a qualitative, eye-opening experience of the Third Street area night. The lecture, followed by walking tour, was attended by approximately 25 people.The workshop was attended by 12 stakeholders.

Bogota Centro: Historic District, Colombia, Nocturnal Cities Conference  

November 2018

The Conference hosted 335+ delegates from all over Colombia and the world and featured a full day of panels and presentations, as well as an afternoon work session and an evening concert. The events explored the important role played by the night-time economy and its relationship with city planning and welcomed a total of 410 attendees and 43 speakers from all over the world.

Walk with urban lighting and nighttime designer Leni Schwendinger to re-frame NYC’s spatial spectacle at the Crossroads of the World. This interactive journey through Times Square will include little known historic developments in lighting, advertising and technology. Together we will observe the provocative human behavior engendered by tiny, handheld screens surrounded by Times Square’s famed enveloping screens.
